The Shelby Daytona Coupe is one of the most significant American racing cars ever built. Designed by Pete Brock and built by Carroll Shelby’s team in 1964, it was created with a single purpose: to beat Ferrari at their own game on the world’s greatest circuits. In 1965, it did exactly that — the Daytona Coupe won the GT class at Le Mans and secured the FIA GT World Championship for the United States, the first and only time an American manufacturer has ever done so. Only six were ever built.
